Integrating aromatherapy as a practical counselling tool during any cancer journey

“From the moment of diagnosis, cancer is undoubtedly a devastating illness that produces enormous stress in the person involved. The situation includes physiological, emotional and mental stress, which turns into chronic distress during their journey.”

“The most common psychological challenges with cancer patients are anxiety, distress, fear, pain and depression. All of them can negatively affect their quality of life, physical function, work performance, social interaction, family care, cognitive performance, sexual performance, community activities, continuity of treatment, and cancer survival.”

Jonathan Benavides has been a psychologist since 1986 and has always been interested in research and integrating different disciplines. He incorporated advanced clinical aromatherapy into his praxis and has been working within the palliative home care system in The Netherlands since 2009. Over the years he has developed, used, trained and lectured in diverse therapeutic interventions (conventional and non-conventional). Jonathan is also a Reiki Master, HEARTS (UK) teacher, anointer, coach, counsellor and international teacher and lecturer.

In this very practical article, Jonathan sums up the possibilities of Integrating aromatherapy as a practical counselling tool during any cancer journey. You can read that in our SPRING issue of AROMATIKA Magazine 9.1.
