Interview with Robbi Zeck By Michelle Ensley

Pg. 28-37 9-minute read

In this article, Aromatika editor Michelle Ensley interviewed Australian Kinesiologist and Aromatherapist Robbi Zeck, who, trained in various modalities, established and pioneered a unique method called Aromatic Kinesiology which fuses kinesiology with aromatherapy. Her book The Blossoming Heart – Aromatherapy for Healing and Transformation achieved five editions.

How did you initially get involved with aromatherapy, and what made you start working with essential oils?

My journey into aromatherapy began with a strong passion for holistic healing. With a background in Naturopathy, Herbal Medicine, Kinesiology, Psychology, and Aromatherapy, I was already running a private practice at The Kinesiotherapy Centre in Melbourne—a vibrant space for healing and professional growth.

In the mid-1980s, everything changed when I attended a lecture by students of Robert Tisserand. Around the same time, I met Ron Guba of Essential Therapeutics and read Tisserand’s The Art of Aromatherapy. These moments opened my eyes to the power of essential oils. I started using them in my practice, first for their beautiful scents, then realizing their deeper effects on emotional stress. What began as curiosity turned into a lasting appreciation for the healing power of aroma.

What inspired you to create Aromatic Kinesiology?

The idea for Aromatic Kinesiology was inspired by my work with Bach and Australian Bush flower essences. Seeing their impact on emotional healing, I wondered if essential oils could offer similar support. This led me to create Aromatic Kinesiology—a unique blend of kinesiology and aromatherapy designed to support deep emotional transformation.

If you had to choose one essential oil to take to a desert island?

Big question as I love so many! It would be Fragonia (Agonis fragrans). Its fresh, clean, slightly floral aroma brings clarity and softness. To me, it supports both the heart and lung energies, offering backbone and strength to the willpower – qualities I might well need living alone on an island! It's my go to oil when I am travelling to support my immune system and to nourish my nervous system.

What would be your tips for the new or upcoming aromatherapist?

Find your niche. Own your uniqueness. Find what makes your heart sing and take your beautiful offering to the world. When you align with your purpose, life begins to flow in surprising, abundant ways. Be in loving service to yourself first so that you can continue to be in loving service to others long term. Everyday, turn towards the light that sparks your heart and keep learning – seek out teachers and mentors who inspire your spirit as well as your science mind.
